NASCAR SEASON KICKS OFF SATURDAY AT CONCORD
CONCORD, N.C. – NASCAR racing returns to Cabarrus County Saturday when Town
and Country Ford Opening Night takes place at Concord Motorsport Park. A
complete program for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series will be presented.
The Town and Country Ford late model stock drivers will be in the spotlight
with a 75-lap feature. If pre-season talk is any indication, a large field of
drivers is expected to compete weekly at the track.
Additional cars are expected as teams prepare for the March 31 UARA-Stars
race at the speedway. The traveling series is idle this weekend and with the
challenging Concord tri-oval next on the schedule many drivers will use
Saturday to gain valuable experience. Forty cars attempted to qualify for the
tours season opener last week at Hickory Motor Speedway.
Joining the late model stocks will be a 40-lap feature for the JRD
Earthworks limited late model drivers. Last year the championship in this division
came down to the final lap of the final race and with a new season comes the
excitement of getting a quick start.
The wild and unpredictable Coca-Cola pure stock races have been bumped up
from 25-laps to 30 this season. These tire-squealing, fender-banging drivers are
anxious to mix-it-up after sitting idle since October.
The popular theme-cars of the fast and furious fours will race for 20 laps
and joining the four regular divisions will be a 25-lap feature for the sleek
INEX thunder roadsters.
Grandstand gates open at 5:30 with qualifying at 5:45. Opening ceremonies
are at 7:15, followed by racing at 7:30. Adult grandstand admission is $12 with
children 11-and-under admitted free when accompanied by an adult.
Concord Motorsport Park is located on highway 601 north of Midland and south
of Concord. More information is available by calling (704) 782-4221 or at
