BUSTER BENNET NEEDS LAST-LAP PASS TO GO THREE-FOR-THREE
CONCORD, N.C. (April 10, 2005) - Buster Bennet of Monroe used a last-lap
pass to win his third consecutive NASCAR Coca-Cola Cup late model stock
feature at Concord Motorsport Park on Saturday night.
Other winners were: Jay Payne of Thomasville in the 35-lap Tommy Johnsons
Motorsports Warehouse limited late model feature; Brandon Ward of High Point
in the 25-lap Virginia Mini Cup feature; Adam Beaver of Concord in the 25-lap
Golden Gait Trailer mini stock feature; Brian Love of Mt. Pleasant in the
20-lap New Star Environmental pure stock feature; and ayne Harrington of China
Grove in the 15-lap Speedway Plumbing hornets feature.
Travis Sharpe of Swansea S.C. started on the pole position and jumped
into the early lead of the 100-lap late model stock feature. Bennet started sixth
and chased Sharpe for 84 laps before making his move to the top spot.
A late race caution created extra laps and added excitement as Sharpe
passed Bennet with three laps remaining. Bennet made his move on the last lap and
rolled to the win. Sharpe finished second with Todd Bradburry of Concord
third, Chris Gordon of Kannapolis fourth and Bobby Cooper of Burnsville fifth.
Payne started on the pole and raced to his second win of the season in
the limited late model feature - his other win was opening night. Jeff Melton of
Monroe continued his strong season with a second-place run, his third top-two
finish of the season. Reggie Carroll of Charlotte was third, Jimmy Voyles of
China Grove fourth, and Randy McAnulty of Concord fifth.
Beaver started third and scored his second win of the season in the mini
stock feature. David Pennell of Kannapolis finished second and Clint Mills of
Marshville was third. Kenny Brooks of Concord finished fourth and Doug Lamp of
Troutman fifth.
Ward won the Virginia Mini Cup feature over Jamie Ruley, Corey
Berkstresser, Matt Wade, and Brian Conklin.
Love continues his perfect season winning his third pure stock feature
after starting second. David Miller of Stanfield earned runner-up honors and
Patty Markin of Troutman finished third. Alvin Thomas of Monroe and Chad Allmon
of Mt. Pleasant completed the top five.
Harrington won his first win of the season in the hornets feature. Ben
Smith of Harrisburg was second while Bobby Measmer Jr. of Concord third. Brandon
Cooper of Burnsville finished fourth and Concord's Steve Ackerly fifth.
Racing resumes Saturday night with another complete program of the NASCAR
Dodge Weekly Series. Late model stocks will headline with a 100-lap feature.
Residents of Rowan County will be admitted free with proper identification.
