DEFENDING CHAMP SHANE BRAFFORD GOES TO VICTORY LANE
CONCORD, N.C. – Defending track champion Shane Brafford of Concord scored
the win Saturday night in the 35-lap JRD Earthworks feature for the Town and
Country Ford late model stocks at Concord Motorsport Park. The second 35-lap
feature for the division was rained out.
Other winners were: Todd Bradburry of Concord in the 40-lap JRD Earthworks
limited late model feature; Chad Allmon of Mount Pleasant in the 30-lap
Coca-Cola pure stock feature; and Jake Simpson of Albemarle in the 20-lap fast and
furious fours feature.
Brafford, who now has 20 late model stock wins at the track, held off a
fierce challenge from Chuck Crump of Star throughout the race. Crump settled for
second.
Opening night winner Jeff Melton of Concord was third with Andrew Thomas of
Monroe fourth. Billy Lemmons of Salisbury completed the top five.
Bradburry, the 2004 late model stock champion, has returned to action this
season in the limited late model ranks and picked up his 17th career victory
at the track.
It was a top five full of Concord residents with Terry Hoggard, Kenny
Brooks, Kenneth Cook and Brian Conforth taking the first five spots.
Allmon made it two-for-two in winning the pure stock feature. He bested
Steve Irvin of Concord in the victory.
Charles Hutto of Monroe was third. Billy Symanski Jr. of Mint Hill and Ben
Smith of Harrisburg completed the top five.
After trying for a couple of seasons, Simpson finally found the combination
to victory lane scoring his career first win at the track in the fast and
furious fours ranks.
Brad Kimrey of Norwood and Tracy Mullis of Monroe finished second and
third.
Action returns Saturday night with Independent Tribune Night at the
speedway. Again, the late model stocks will be featured in twin-35-lap features.
