DENNIS SCHOENFELD PERFECT IN FUTURE CELLULAR BIG-1O SERIES
CONCORD, N.C. (May 2, 2005) - It took Dennis Schoenfeld of Concord years
of racing to find victory lane at Concord Motorsport Park, and now he wants to
make it a regular stop. He won the season opener in March, and followed that
up Saturday night with a second-consecutive victory in the 125-lap Future
Cellular Big-10 Series super late model feature on Tommy Johnson's Motorsports
Warehouse night at the races.
Other winners were: Travis Sharpe of Swansea, S.C. in the 50-lap NASCAR
Coca-Cola late model stock feature; Jay Payne of Thomasville in the 35-lap
Tommy Johnson's Motorsports Warehouse limited late model feature; Adam Beaver of
Concord in the 25-lap Golden Gait Trailers mini stock feature; Steve Irvin of
Concord in the 20-lap New Star Environmental pure stock feature; and Bobby
Measmer Jr. of Concord in the 15-lap Speedway Plumbing hornets feature.
Schoenfeld started on the pole positions and jumped into the early lead
with defending track champion Freddie Query of Mooresville chasing. A trio of
caution flags played into Schoenfeld's hand as his car was quicker early in a
run yielding speed to Query late in the run.
Schoenfeld fended off a strong late race assault from Query to score the
$4,000 top prize. Query finished second with Jeremy Pate of Pensacola, Fla.
third. Jimmy Simpson of Concord finished fourth with Eddie Massengill of
Goldsboro fifth.
Bo Foust of Charlotte hustled from the second starting spot into the lead
at the drop of the green in the late model stock feature. Sharpe, who started
third chased for the first 28 laps before making his move to the front spot.
Sharpe fended off serious challenges throughout the balance of the
feature to score his second-consecutive victory. Rookie John Freeman of Huntersville
earned his best finish of the year in a fender-banging dual to the finish
line with Foust for second place. Buster Bennet of Monroe finished fourth with
Chris Gordon of Kannapolis fifth.
Payne started fourth in the limited late model feature and raced to his
third victory of the season by two-car-lengths of Terry Hoggard of Concord.
Randy McAnulty of Concord was third, Jimmy Voyles of China Grove finished fourth
and point leader Jeff Melton of Monroe finished fifth.
Beaver, the defending champion, raced past Kenny Brooks of Concord on lap
20 to score the victory in the mini stock feature. Brooks finished second
with David Pennell of Kannapolis third. Roy Maness of Star and Eric Harrington of
Kannapolis completed the top five.
Irvin stopped the four race win streak of Brian Love of Mt. Pleasant by
winning the pure stock feature. Chad Allmon of Mt. Pleasant was second while
David Miller of Stanfield scored the third-place finish. Love finished fourth
and Richard Kuntz of Concord finished fifth.
Measmer win his third race of the season in the hornets division. Brandon
Cooper of Concord and Wayne Harrington of China Grove completed the top
three.
Legends car winners on Friday night at the quarter-mile oval were: Josh
Waring of Concord in the pro division; Brandon Weber of Charlotte in the semi
pro division; and John Barilka of Charlotte in the masters division. Bandolero
winners Friday were: Bruce Benson II of Lexington in the outlaw division; Cole
Miktuk of Fort Mill S.C. in the young guns division; and Jordan Phillips of
Concord in the bandits division.

Anderson of Columbia, S.C. in the semi pro division; and Barilka in the masters
division. Benson remained undefeated in the Bandolero outlaw division with Miktuk
winning the young guns feature. Ronnie Bassett Jr. of Winston-Salem won the
bandits feature.
Racing resumes Saturday night with the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series in the
spotlight and it will be Kid's Night at the track with many additional
activities for the young fans. Drivers will also be racing for double points.
Legends and Bandolero racing continues on Friday night at the
quarter-mile oval.
