TERRY BROOKS JR. FIRST TO DOUBLE-UP WITH NASCAR WIN AT CONCORD

CONCORD, N.C. – Terry Brooks Jr. of Concord became the first driver this season to score a second win in the 100-lap NASCAR Coca-Cola late model stock feature on Saturday night. It was his 37th career victory at the half-mile trioval.

Brian Conforth of Concord also was the first second-time winner as he scored the victory in the special 50-lap Tommy Johnson’s Motorsports Warehouse limited late model feature.

Other winners were: Steve Irvin of Concord in the 25-lap Golden Gait Trailers pure stock feature; Ben Smith of Harrisburg in the Speedway Plumbing fast and furious fours feature; and Jim Cook of Concord in the 25-lap Redneck Racers feature.

Kernersville’s Brad Kurth jumped from the second starting spot into the lead at the start of the late model stock feature. He set the pace for the first 17 laps before Andrew Thomas of Monroe took the top spot entering the first turn. Thomas commanded the race until lap 40 when Bo Foust of Harrisburg moved inside in the final corner and to the point. Foust looked strong but his time at the point was short-lived as a flat tire on lap 48 sent him to the pits,
handing Brooks the top spot. Brooks led the balance of the feature surviving a steady challenge from point leader Shane Brafford of Concord who finished second. Bryan “Dude” Thomas of Monroe had a strong third-place finish. Kurth was fourth and Foust rallied
back to finish fifth.

Jeff Melton of Monroe jumped into the early lead in the extra-distance limited late model feature and held that spot for the first 11 laps. Conforth looked inside exiting the final corner and took the lead into turn one on the 12th circuit.

Conforth held off persistent pressure from Concord’s Kenneth Cook to win his fourth-career victory at the speedway. Cook was second with Randy McAnulty of Concord third. Terry Hoggard, also of Concord, and Brian Pedrick of Denver completed the top five.
Irvin started on the front row and led every lap of the pure stock feature enroute to his second-consecutive win at the track. Brian Love of Mt. Pleasant finally shook the bad luck to finish second with Chad Allmon of Mt. Pleasant third. Alton Boyd of Kannapolis finished fourth with Mark Dyer of Lucust fifth.

Smith continued his winning ways in the fast and furious fours ranks scoring his third win in five races this season. Brad Ballard of Kannapolis was second with Jake Simpson of Albemarle third.

Cook won the redneck racers feature in a photo finish over Dave Knight of Dover, Ohio.

The NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series returns to action Saturday night on Independent Tribune Night. The Virginia Mini Cup cars will join the late model stocks, limited late models, pure stocks and hornets in an exciting racing program.
