MIKE TERRY WINS ROBBIE WELLS MEMORIAL, CHUCK CRUMP TAKES SECOND SEASON LATE MODEL VICTORY

CONCORD, N.C. – Mike Terry of Charlotte captured the trophy in the highly anticipated Miracle Dental Center Robbie Wells Memorial 100-lap Limited Late Model feature Saturday at Concord Motorsport Park.  Other winners included Chuck Crump in the 75-lap Late Model Stock Car event, Charles Hutto of Monroe in the 40-laps Pure Stock feature and Chad Miller of Concord in the Fast & Furious Fours.

Robbie Wells was a well-liked Limited Late Model competitor who tragically lost his life in a motorcycle accident in 2007.  The Robbie Wells Memorial is Concord Motorsport Park’s way of marking Robbie’s memory.  The J R D Earthworks Limited Late Model event was the headliner Saturday.  The memorial brought out several drivers not seen in competition lately, including Bobby Cooper of Burnsville, Shane Brafford of Concord, Late Model Stock Car Champ two years ago, Greg Peterson of Concord were among those who turned out to compete in Robbie’s memory.

The event began with Terry on the pole in the #23 J R D Earthworks - Truck Service of Charlotte - Maaco Paint & Body - Racing Electronics 2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS and just outside, Todd Bradburry, originally from Rialto, California in the #21 Bench Built Transmissions Monte Carlo.  Bradburry went to the outside of Terry in Turn Three for the lead while Jay Payne of Thomasville in the #08 Ford and Jeff Melton in the #60 Ford Fusion battled side by side for the opening laps for third.  The first of many cautions came out on lap 7 as Greg Peterson bobbled a bit into Turn 2 and several cars jammed up behind.  The real shake up came on lap 28 as the top five runners came to grief exiting turn one.  Jay Payne and Greg Peterson were sidelined by the pile-up, but Bradburry, Terry and Melton were able to continue was various amounts of damage.  Bradburry’s effort would end on the 19th lap as he and Sam McAulay made contact, cutting down Bradburry’s tire and causing Bradburry to crash hard.  Terry soldiered on, passing and holding off Shane Brafford in the #16 Dodge Charger who crossed the line in second.  Dr. Jerry Miracle, of Miracle Dental Center fame finished third, McAulay was fourth and Bobby Cooper fifth.  Heintz Performance, a long time sponsor of Robbie Wells, made special $100 certificate awards for the seventh and fourth place qualifiers and seventh and fourth place finishers.  “I don’t know how I survived that” Terry said in the Independent Tribune Victory Lane interviews.  “Something happed in the accident…I don’t know if the car towed out or in down there, but I believe we’re going to leave it where it is!”

The 75-lap Town and Country Ford Late Model Stock Car feature saw 2007 LMSC Champ Chuck Crump of Star, NC in the #8 R. L. Kellam Company Ford Fusion dominate the event, much like the week prior.  There was a long delay fro track cleanup mid-event after Bobby Measmer’s #29 Chevy took a spin in Turn Three after dumping most of the allowed 8 quarts of oil on the track.  Three-time Late Model Champion and 2008 points leader Kevin Love of Midland finished second in the #88 A Plus Auto Salvage - Sogo Japanese Steakhouse Ford.  Third was terry Brooks, Jr. in the #23 Fairborn Equipment - Whitley Truck - T Shirts Plus Impala SS. Fourth was Shaun Mangum of Monroe in the #25 Kiker Tree Service - Laurence Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS and Concord’s Justin Hill in the #45 Hill's A/C Auto  Monte Carlo SS claimed fifth.   “I didn’t do much tonight… the car was so good” said Crump, giving all the credit to his crew.

Charles Hutto of Monroe won the Coca-Cola Pure Stock event with his #1 WIXE 1190 AM - Autotrader.com Monte Carlo SS.  Clinton Baker of Charleston, Illinois in the #2 Bench Built Transmissions Chevy came in second, Cooper Faassen of Monroe in The # 11Wilburn Auto Body Chevy third, fourth was “Big Mike” Southwell of Stanfield in the #6 Buick Regal and fifth went to Daniel Tobeler of Denver, NC in the #44 Richard Mikels Chevrolet.

The Tim Marburger Honda Fast and Furious Fours race was another friendly slugfest among the front-drive fanatics.  Chad Miller from Kannapolis first victory of the season in the #88 Auto Tech "DIRTY MO POSSE" Honda Prelude.  Second was Tracy Mullis of Indian Trail, NC in the #55 Miracle Dental Center - Spencer Morgan (Autism Foundation) "THE ENFORCER" Prelude.  Third went to Bradley Kimrey of Norwood, NC in the #88Tim Marburger Honda - Northside Auto Sales - H & K Auto - Doug's Garage "WILD THANG" Prelude.  Fourth Jake Simpson of Albemarle driving the #74 Northside Motors - Tim Marburger Honda "ALBEMARLE BULLDOG" Honda and fifth across the line was Estus White IV OF Kannapolis in the #6 E Speed Motorsports "WHITE LIGHTNING" Dodge Shadow.

Saturday June is Coca-Cola Night at the Races for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series.  The competitors will return to “the House of Speed”… Concord Motorsport Park’s half-mile TriOval with our traditional night of racing, 75-laps Late Model Stock Car, 40-laps Limited Late Model, 30-laps Pure Stock and 20 laps Fast & Furious Fours.  Pit Gates open at 2:30, practice at 3:30.  You can watch practice for free with the grandstand box office opening at 5:30 PM.  Adult general admission is just $12 and children age 11 and under are always admitted free with a ticketed adult.
