MANGUM FIRST TO DOUBLE-UP WITH CONCORD WIN

CONCORD, N.C. – Shaun Mangum of Monroe, the 2003 track champion, won Saturday’s 50-lap NASCAR Town and Country Ford late model stock feature at Concord Motosport Park.

Other winners on Allstate Night at the Races were: Kenneth Cook of Concord in the 40-lap JRD Earthworks limited late model race; Billy Symanski Jr. of Mint Hill in the 30-lap Coca Cola pure stock feature; and Bradley Kimrey of Norwood in the 20-lap fast and furious fours contest.

Mangum won the pole position and set a tire-blistering pace leading the early laps. Defending champion Shane Brafford of Concord took advantage of Mangum’s wearing tires and was able to get alongside, but never able to inch ahead. Mangum became the first multiple winner this season in earning his 26th-career late model stock triumph. Brafford finished second with Bo Foust of Greensboro third. Chuck Crump of Star and Chad Mullis of Mint Hill completed the top five.

Cook took the lead on lap 26 of the caution-plagued limited late model feature and raced to his first victory of the season. It was career victory number 20 for the popular hometown chauffer. Bobby Measmer Jr. and Todd Bradburry, both of Concord, finished second and third.

Symanski took the lead on lap 10 and never looked back earning his first win of the season. It was the 16th time he’s won at the track, but first aboard a pure stock car. Steve Irvin of Concord and Chad Allmon of Mt. Pleasant completed the top three.

Kimrey, driving his “Wild Thang”-themed car, led every lap enroute to his first fast and furious fours win of the season. Tracy Mullis of Monroe finished second with Jake Simpson of Albemarle third.

Saturday is Independent Tribune Night at Concord with the late model stocks slugging it out for 125 laps. Limited late models, pure stocks and fast and furious fours will also be in action. Fans will also get to meet the drivers of the fast and furious fours ranks with a special autograph session.
