DEFENDING CHAMP BRAFFORD GETS SECOND WIN
CONCORD, N.C. – Defending track champion Shane Brafford of Concord won
Saturday’s 125-lap NASCAR Town and CountryFord late model stock feature at
Concord Motorsport Park.
Other winners on Independent Tribune Night were: Kenny Brooks of Concord in
the 40-lap JRD Earthworks limited late model race, Charles Hutto of Monroe in
the 30-lap Coca Cola pure stock contest, and Tracy Mullis, also of Monroe, in
the 20-lap fast and furious fours feature.
The late model stock feature started with a cloud of smoke at Patrick McVay
of Kannapolis had an oil line rupture coating the speedway in oil. After a
lengthy clean-up effort the green flag waved again and the race ran the
complete 125-lap distance without further stoppage.
Brafford started on the outside pole and hustled into the top spot, where he
would stay as he drove to his second win of the season and 21st of his
career.
Bryan “Dude” Thomas had the ride of the night, starting on the pole and
dropping all the way back to ninth in the first dozen laps. The speedster out
of Monroe patiently started passing cars and raced back up to a second-place
finish.
Chad Mullis of Mint Hill, Bo Foust of Greensboro and former thunder roadster
star Kyle Beattie of Concord completed the top five.
Brooks, a former mini stock champion at the speedway, survived a lap one
caution and led the entire distance in earning his career first limited late
model win. He now has 14 total victories at the track.
It was all Concord drivers with Bobby Measmer Jr., Brian Conforth, Todd
Bradburry and Kenneth Cook snaring the top-five finishing spots.
To date, six different drivers have won the six limited late model features.
Hutto scored his career first victory in the pure stock thriller. He fended
off Ben Smith of Harrisburg to cross the strip first. Smith was second with
Clinton Baker of Charleston, Ill. third.
Mullis continued his winning ways besting Bradley Kimrey of Norwood and Jake
Simpson of Albemarle in the fast and furious fours feature.
Saturday night is Pro Pac International Night with Twin-35-lap features for
the late model stocks. Gates open at 5:30, qualifying is at 5:45 with racing
at 7:30.
