CHUCK CRUMP – SIXTH DRIVER TO WIN CONCORD LATE MODEL STOCKS

CONCORD, N.C. – Chuck Crump of Star won the 100-lap NASCAR Coca Cola late model stock feature Saturday night at Concord Motorsport Park. He became the sixth different race winner in the division this season. Other winners were: Terry Hoggard of Concord in the 35-lap Tommy Johnson’s Motorsports Warehouse limited late model feature; Alvin Thomas of Monroe in the 25-lap Golden Gait Trailers pure stock feature; Ben Smith of Harrisburg in the 15-lap Speedway Plumbing fast and furious fours; and Kyle Beattie of Concord in the 35-lap 600 Racing thunder roadster feature.

Andrew Thomas of Monroe jumped into the lead and fended off a challenge from Billy Lemmons of Salisbury during the early stages of the race. On lap33, as the caution was displayed, Thomas slowed and was hit by the car of Bryan “ Dude” Thomas (no relation) also of Monroe. Andrew Thomas car suffered heavy damage ending his night. That gave the top
spot to Crump who fended off a strong challenge late in the race from Lemmons to score the win. Crump was the 1996 mini stock divisional champion at the speedway and it was his second-career late model stock victory. Lemmons finished second with Shaun Mangum of Monroe third. Bryan Thomas was fourth with Jamie Hayes of Charlotte completing the top five.

Hoggard started on the front row in the late model stock feature and took the early lead. He fended off a strong challenge from Mike Terry of Charlotte to win his second victory of the season. Terry followed up last weeks win with a strong second-place finish. Ben Hinson of Kannapolis was third with Jeff Melton of Monroe fourth. Kenny Brooks of Concord completed the top five.

Alvin Thomas had a tremendous fight on his hands, fending off numerous challengers to win his first pure stock feature of the season. At times, the cars were three-wide racing for the lead with Thomas keeping his nose in front throughout.
Chad Allmon of Mt. Pleasant finished second with Alton Boyd of Kannapolis third. Sean Bonawit and Steve Irvin of Concord rounded out the top five.

Smith continued his winning ways at the speedway earning his fourth of the season and eight-career victory in the fast and furious fours feature. Brad Ballard of Kannapolis and Brad Deal of Mt. Pleasant finished second and third.

Beattie and Drew Calhoun of Southern Pines put on a spirited battle each leading a number of laps in the thunder roadster feature. In the end it was Beattie scoring his second win of the season over Calhoun with Jim Fluharty of Concord third.

Saturday night is Boy Scout Night at Concord Motorsport Park. Scouts and leaders wearing their uniform or unit t-shirt will be admitted free for the exciting night of NASCAR racing.

The late model stocks will again go for a 100-lap feature with limited late models, pure stocks, fast and furious fours and thunder roadsters also in action.
