CRUMP AND THE “DUDE” GET CONCORD WINS
· Kid’s Night Up Next

CONCORD, N.C. – Chuck Crump of Star and Bryan “Dude” Thomas of Monroe scored the wins Saturday night in the twin-35 lap NASCAR Town and Country Ford late model stock features at Concord Motorsport Park. For Thomas it was his career first late model stock win at the speedway.

Other winners on Pro Pac International Night were: Jay Payne of Kernersville in the 40-lap JRD Earthworks limited late model feature; Billy Symanski Jr. of Mint Hill in the 30-lap Coca Cola pure stock feature; and Jake Simpson of Albemarle in the 20-lap fast and furious fours race.

Brad Kurth of Kernersville returned to Concord for the first time this season and won the pole position for the first race. Over the first 14 laps Kurth and Jeff Melton of Concord waged a tremendous battle for the lead. Kurth would eventually take the lead for good on lap 15 and race to the apparent win. Post race inspection found Kurth’s engine did not meet specifications. He was disqualified giving the win to Crump. Shaun Mangum of Monroe and Chad Mullis of Mint Hill finished second and third.

Mullis started the second feature on the outside of the front row and set the pace for the first 25 laps. On lap 26, Thomas moved inside to the top spot and cruised to the win in the race that ran green-to-checkered without a caution. As in the first race; Mangum finished second and Mullis third.

Payne started second and quickly hustled into the lead in the limited late model feature. He fended off a strong challenge from Kenny Brooks throughout to earn the win. He is the seventh different driver to win in seven limited late model features this season.

Brooks maintained second with Mike Terry of Charlotte third. Symanski started on the outside pole and led from the start of the pure stock feature. He rolled to his second win of the season. Ben Smith of Harrisburg and Charles Hotto of Monroe completed the top three.

Simpson outran the field in the “Albemarle Bulldog”-themed car to win the fast and furious fours feature. Tracy Mullis of Monroe and Steve Teague of Welcome completed the top three.

This Saturday night is the always popular Pizza Hut Kid’s Night at the speedway. Many special events – including rides in the actual race cars, clowns, giant inflatable play areas and balloons – are planned for the young race fans.

The late model stock drivers will headline with a 75-lap feature.
