BO FOUST SCORES SECOND-CONSECUTIVE NASCAR WIN AT CONCORD
CONCORD, N.C. (July 17, 2005) - Charlotte's Bo Foust scored his
second-consecutive NASCAR Coca Cola late model stock feature win Saturday night in the
100-lap feature at Concord Motorsport Park.
Other winners were: Jimmy Voyles of China Grove in the 35-lap Tommy
Johnson's Motorsports Warehouse limited late model feature; David Pennell, also of
China Grove, in the 25-lap Golden Gait Trailers mini stock feature; and Bobby
Measmer Jr. of Concord in both the 20-lap Speedway Plumbing pure stock feature
and the 15-lap hornets feature.
Roger Lee Newton of Concord jumped from the second starting spot and
fended off an early challenge from rookie racer John Freeman of Cornelius to lead
the first 34 laps of the late model stock feature. Foust moved past exiting
turn three and lead until lap 58 when Travis Sharpe of Swansea, S.C. took the
top spot.
Sharpe lead a torrid battle among the top five drivers until contact with
Justin Hill of Concord resulted in both cars wrecking and put Foust back in
the top spot. He raced to his second-consecutive and third-career win.
Linny White of Colton, Calif. finished second with Andrew Thomas of
Monroe third. Bob Saville of New London finished fourth and Brad Kurth of
Kernersville returned to competition in style with a fifth-place finish.
Last week's winner Kenneth Cook of Concord started on the pole and took
early command of the limited late model feature. Point leader Jimmy Voyles
started third and challenged Cook until midway through the feature when he took
the top spot.
Voyles scored his first win of the season and first-career limited late
model victory. He previously won 13 times in the mini stock division. Cook
finished second with Terry Hoggard of Concord third. Brian Pedrick of Denver and
Randy McAnulty of Concord completed the top five.
Kenny Brooks of Concord started on the pole and cruised to what appeared
to be an easy win in the mini stock division. However, an infraction within
his carburetor resulted in his disqualification giving the win to David Pennell
of China Grove.
It was Pennell's 49th win at the track - eighth on the all-time list.
Clint Mills of Marshville finished second with Michael Tucker of Concord third.
Doug Lamp of Troutman was fourth and David Cunningham of Concord fifth.
In the pure stock feature, Measmer started third and earned his second
victory in four weeks of racing the division. Brian Love of Mt. Pleasant was
second with Steve Irvin of Concord third. Alvin Thomas of Monroe was fourth with
Steve Ackerly, also of Monroe, fifth.
In the hornets feature, Measmer started third and rolled to his 11th win
of the season. Ben Smith of Harrisburg was second with Eric Kimrey of
Albemarle third.
Racing resumes Saturday night with Dodge Night at the Races. A complete
program of late model stocks, limited late models, mini stocks, pure stocks and
hornets will be presented.
