SHANE BRAFFORD WINS SECOND STRAIGHT AT CONCORD

CONCORD, N.C. – In the first half of the 2006 season, Concord’s Shane Brafford blistered the competition with consistency. He has turned the wick up in the second half, scoring his second-consecutive win in Saturday’s 100-lap NASCAR Coca Cola late model stock feature.

Other winners on Speedway Plumbing night were: Ben Hinson of Kannapolis in the 35-lap Tommy Johnson’s Motorsports Warehouse limited late model feature; Steve Irvin of Concord in the 25-lap Golden Gait Trailers pure stock feature; and Adam Morgan of Mt. Pleasant in the 15-lap Speedway Plumbing fast and furious fours feature.

Billy Lemmons of Salisbury jumped from the pole position to the lead and led the first nine circuits. Brafford moved alongside on lap 10 and the two waged a side-by-side battle for a few laps before Brafford could secure the top spot.
From there it was a matter of beating the competition and the rain for Brafford, who he went on to score his fourth win of the season. As he pulled into victory lane the clouds cut loose on the winning celebration. Terry Brooks Jr. of Concord finished second with Shaun Mangum of Monroe third. Lemmons held on for a fourth-place finish with Bryan “Dude” Thomas
completing the top five.

Hinson started on the front row and had easy work of the limited late model feature scoring the flag-to-flag victory. It was his first win of the 2006 racing season. Mike Terry of Charlotte fought his way from the last starting spot to second at the finish with defending champion Terry Hoggard of Concord third. Kenneth Cook of Concord and Robbie Wells of Stanfield rounded out the top five.

Chad Allmon of Mt. Pleasant and Irvin waged a tremendous battle in the pure stock feature. While Irvin led from lap six to the finish, he never was able to pull away from the persistent challenge Allmon gave him. Irvin scored the victory over Allmon. David Miller of Stanfield was third. Alton Boyd of Kannapolis finished fourth and Mike Southwell of Stanfield was fifth.

Morgan also scored the win leading every lap in earning his career-first victory in the fast and furious fours feature. Jeff Smith of Stanfield was second with Nikki Long of Concord third.

The Virginia mini cups were slated to compete, but with the threat of rain in the area they touring division opted not to travel in to Concord.

Saturday night sees the late model stocks going extra-distance with a 150-lap feature contest. Limited late models, pure stocks and fast and furious fours will also be in action.
