BRAFFORD OVERCOMES MAJOR HURDLES TO SCORE CONCORD WIN
CONCORD, N.C. – Shane Brafford of Concord continued to be the “man-to-beat” as he drove from last-to-first with no power steering to win his sixth race of the season in Saturday’s Sun Trust Bank 100-lap NASCAR Coca Cola late model stock feature.

Other winners were: Ben Hinson in Kannapolis in the 35-lap Tommy Johnson’s Motorsports Warehouse limited late model feature; Chad Allmon of Mt. Pleasant in the 25-lap Golden Gait Trailers pure stock feature; and Adam Morgan, also of Mt. Pleasant, in the 15-lap Speedway Plumbing fast and furious fours contest.

Billy Lemmon’s of Salisbury led the first five laps of the late model stock feature before being passed by Bo Foust of Harrisburg. Foust held the point until lap 46 when former track champion Shaun Mangum of Monroe moved to the point.
Meanwhile, Brafford was charging through the field. During his qualifying run earlier in the evening the steering on his car locked up and he barely saved the car from severe damage missing the concrete wall by just a couple of inches. The crew disconnected the power steering unit and with no qualifying time he had to start last. On lap 88, Brafford caught Mangum, made his move to the top spot and never looked back. Mangum finished second with Andrew Thomas of Monroe third. Chuck
Crump of Star and Terry Brooks Jr. of Concord completed the top five.

The limited late model feature saw Concord drivers Terry Hoggard and Brian Conforth swap the lead throughout the first half. While the two have had issues with each other in the past they battled side-by-side with no problems until Conforth was able to secure the lead. Hinson patiently worked to second spot and on lap 23 put the move on Conforth to take the lead enroute to his second victory of the year. Conforth finished second with Hoggard third. Kenneth Cook and Jeff Melton, both also of
Concord, finished fourth and fifth.

Monroe drivers Charles Hutto and Steve Ackerly led the first 14 laps of the pure stock feature before Allmon moved past. He held off the persistent challenge of Steve Irvin of Concord to win his third of the season and second consecutive race.
Irvin and Ackerly followed Allmon across the finish line. Hutto was fourth with David Miller of Stanfield fifth.

Morgan, driver the “Road Runner” themed car, put the “Wiley E. Coyote” on the field leading every lap to score his second fast and furious fours win of the season. Jeff Smith of Stanfield and Chad Johnson of Concord finished second and third.

This Saturday night will be Independent Tribune Night at the speedway with a 100-lap late model stock feature and an extra-distance 50-lap feature for the limited late models. Pure stocks and fast and furious fours will also see action.
