"DUDE" THOMAS CLAIMS SECOND WIN, DOUBLE POINTS SHAKE UP STANDINGS

Concord, N. C. - Bryan Thomas of Monroe claimed his second win of the 2007 season Saturday in the 50-lap Town & Country Ford Late Model Stock car feature race at Concord Motorsport Park. Other winners were: Mike Terry of Charlotte in the J R D Earthworks Limited Late Model feature; Charles Hutto of Monroe in the Coca-Cola Pure Stock feature; Jake Simpson of Albemarle in the Fast & Furious Fours and Devon Haun of Hiddenite, NC in the Pro Challenge Series.

The action started early in the Late Model event as Terry Brooks, Jr. of Concord, making his first 2007 start and driving the #02 Sharpe Construction Chevrolet normally piloted by Travis Sharpe took a long slide into Turn One bring out the first caution of the feature. After the race settled down again, Thomas began moving through the traffic from his fouth place starting spot and soon was riding third as Tony Leis of Middle Ridge, Wisconsin began a serious challenge on the leader at that time, Jeff Melton in the Jugular Energy Drink Monte Carlo. Melton slipped high in Turn One on the 30th lap and Leis went inside. Leis and Melton then sparred side to side to the start-finish line where one bump led to another, resulting in both cars making hard contact with the outside wall in Turn One, taking both cars from contention. "Dude" rode through the carnage unscathed to find himself in first place, a position he was determined to hold onto despite a furious charge put on by Shaun Mangum in the #25 Laurence Chevrolet Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS in the closing stages. Mangum settled for second at the checkers with Chuck Crump of Star, NC third in the Gatza Marble Ford Fusion. Clint Mills rode in fourth place and Kyle Beattie fifth.

Coming into the event, Shane Brafford of Concord was enjoying the points lead, but had a miserable nigt with the right rear bkake dragging on the car for the entire event. His seventh place finish combined with the awarding of double track points handed the points lead to Chuck Crump with just four championship events remaining. Chuck now holds 980 points to Brafford's 976.

The Pro Challenge Series feature was shortened to 25 laps. Devon Haun of Hiddenite threw a shoulder block on Trip Massengil of Creedmore, NC entering the Turn Three on the tenth lap, allowing Haun by. Both drivers held on with Haun taking the win, Massengill second, Travor Cauble or Rockwell finishing third, Chris Moore of Salisbury fourth, Terry Horak of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina fifth and Justin Fisher sixth.

Kenneth Cook of Concord led the first five laps of the J R D Earthworks Limited late Model feature before Bobby Measmer, Jr of Concord picked up the point on lap six and held it through thirty-four, but Mike terry of Charlotte piloting the #23 J R D Earthworks Chevy was determined and took the inside line on Measmer in Turn Three during lap thirty-four to lead the last six and take the win. Measmer claimed second, Cook third, Brian Conforth fourth and Steve Ackerly crossed the line in fifth.

An interesting twist upset the finishing order of the Coca Cola Pure Stock feature, but the upset occured in post-race inspection! Brian Love of Mt. Pleasant led all 30 laps of the feature driving the # 25 Chevrolet owned by Ted Wise, with Billy Symanski moving up from his fifth place starting position to come across the line a few car lengths back of Love. After the finish Barry Wray, CMP's race Director and Cheif Steward called for the NASCAR Officials to inspect the cylinder heads of the top three finishers. The parts on the top two did not meet spec and the win was awarded to the third-place finisher, Monroe's Charles Hutto! Officially then, Ben Smith was awarded second place, Clinto Baker third, David Miller Fourth and David Good fifth.

The Fast & Furious Fours division does not time trial, but draws for position. Jake Simpson of Albemarle, in the "Albemarle Bulldogs" themed #74 Honda Prelude must have felt pretty bad when he drew the fifteenth starting position out of seventeen starters! Simpson started a charge on the green flag and by lap 16 of the 20-lap feature had worked his way through the entire field to lead he last laps to the checkers. Bradley Kimrey of Norwood finished second. Jeremy Whitman of Lexington third, Monroe's Tracy Mullis fourth and Jeff Weisner of Lexington fifth.
