WHO ELSE? SHANE BRAFFORD SCORES CONCORD WIN
CONCORD, N.C. – Shane Brafford of Concord won his seventh race of the season
earning the victory Saturday night in the 100-lap NASCAR Coca Cola late model
stock feature at Concord Motorsport Park.
Other winners on Sun Trust Bank night were: Terry Hoggard of Concord in the
50-lap Tommy Johnson’s Motorsports Warehouse limited late model feature; Steve
Irvin of Concord in the 25-lap Golden Gait Trailers pure stock feature; and
Ben Smith of Harrisburg in the 15-lap Speedway Plumbing fast and furious
fours feature.
While the results are the same, Brafford has used two very different routes
to victory lane in the past two weeks. A week ago, Brafford started last and
drove through the field for the victory. On Saturday he started second and
led every lap in the triumph.
Harrisburg’s Bo Foust chased Brafford throughout the race, but came up one
spot short at the finish. However, in post-race inspection Foust was found to
have a three-speed transmission when rules state it must be a four-speed.
Foust’ disqualification moved Tony Leis of Middle Ridge, Wisc. to second
with defending track champion Travis Sharpe of Swansea, S.C. third. Terry
Brooks Jr. of Concord finished fourth with Chuck Crump of Star fifth.
Hoggard, the defending limited late model champion, led every lap in the
extra-distance 50-lap feature. It was his third victory of the season.
Brian Conforth of Concord finished second with Ben Hinson of Kannapolis
third. Mike Terry of Charlotte and Kenneth Cook of Concord completed the top
five.
Irvin started on the pole position and quickly moved to the lead. He led the
distance with Chad Allmon of Mt. Pleasant finishing second, after starting
fifth. Monroe drivers Steve Ackerly and Charles Hutto finished third and
fourth. David Miller of Stanfield was fifth.
Smith returned to victory lane with a flag-to-flag victory in the fast and
furious fours feature. Jeff Smith of Stanfield and Nikki Long of Concord
finished second and third.
Friday night legends and bandolero racing returned to the quarter mile oval.
Winners in the legends ranks were: Brennan Poole of Woodland, Texas in the
pro division; Clay Hair of Mt. Pleasant in masters; and Thomas Hartesnveld III
of Ringwood, N.J in semi pro.
Bandoloro winners were: Chad Fincham of Knoxville, Tenn. in beginner
bandits; Landon Bullock of Denver in bandits; Daniel Hemric of Kannapolis in young
guns; and Bruce Benson II of Lexington in the outlaw division.
Racing returns this weekend with two nights of legends and bandoleros on the
quarter-mile oval. The NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series racers have the weekend
off.
Racing starts at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
