BIG NIGHT FOR QUERY AT CONCORD - TAKES WIN AND POINT LEAD
CONCORD, N.C. - Freddie Query of Mooresville had a big night Saturday at
Concord Motorsport Park winning the 125-lap Future Cellular Big-10 Series
super late model feature and moving to the top spot in the season-long point
standings. Travis Sharpe of Swansea, S.C. returned to victory lane in the 50-lap
NASCAR late model stock feature on Hank Thomas Performance night at the races.
Other winners were: Kenneth Cook of Concord in the 35-lap Tommy Johnson's
Motorsports Warehouse limited late model feature; Brian Love of Mt. Pleasant
in the 20-lap Speedway Plumbing pure stock feature; and Chad Miller of Concord
in the 15-lap Speedway Plumbing fast and furious fours feature.
Preston Peltier of Concord was the fastest qualifier and drew the
second-starting spot for the super late model feature. Unfortunately, he never made
it to the green flag as mechanical problems put him out before the race began.
That gave the advantage to Jeremy Pate of Pensacola, Fla. who started on the
pole position.
Pate led early before Query raced into the lead on lap seven. On lap 12
point leader Dennis Shoenfeld stuffed his car into the concrete wall exiting
turn one ending his night. During the caution it was determined Shoenfeld slid
in grease from the car of Pate, who was sent to the pits to make repairs.
It was a vintage Query run from that point as he scored his 87th career
win. The win, combined with Shoenfeld's troubles, puts Query atop the point
standings as teams prepare for the playoffs that begin after the next race.
Former champions Eddie Massengill of Goldsboro finished second with Chris
Dunn of Garner third. Pate returned to the track to finish fourth with John
Batten of Nashville completing the top five.
Sharpe, who won five races earlier this season, returned to winning form
with a dominate run in the late model stock feature. He stated fourth, took
the lead on lap three and never looked back scoring his sixth victory.
Ross Furr of Concord rallied from a trip to the rear of the field to
finish second. Bo Foust of Charlotte was third with Linny White of Colton, Calif.
fourth and Roger Lee Newton of Concord fifth.
Cook turned in a dominant performance in the limited late model feature.
He was the fastest qualifier, drew the pole position and led flag-to-flag
enroute to his third win of the season and 16th career at the track.
Terry Hoggard and Bobby Measmer Jr., both of Concord were second and
third. Brian Pedrick of Denver finished fourth with Randy McAnulty of Concord
fifth.
Love started fifth and rolled to his ninth win in 17 pure stock races
this season. Steve Irvin of Concord was second with Alvin Thomas of Monroe third.
Chad Allmon of Mt. Pleasant was fourth with Steve Ackerly of Monroe rounding
out the top five.
Miller started seventh in the fast and furious fours feature and scored
his first win of the season. Wayne Harrington of China Grove was second with
Chad Johnson of Concord third.
Friday night legends and bandolero racing returned with the winners as
follows: Josh Waring of Concord in the legends pro division; John Barilka of
Charlotte in the legends masters division; and Justin Morton of Mt. Pleasant in
the legends semi-pro ranks. Bandolero winners were: Derrick Long of Gastonia
in the outlaws, Cole Miktuk of Rock Hill, S.C. in the young guns, and Ronnie
Bassett Jr. of Winston-Salem in the bandits division.
Concord Motorsport Park sits idle Saturday night, with legends and
bandolero racing slated for Friday. Racing returns to the half-mile tri-oval on
Saturday, Sept. 3 with SunTrust Night at the Races feature round seven - the
final round of the regular season - for the Future Cellular Big-10 Series super
late models.
Concord Motorsport Park is located on highway 601 south of Concord and
north of Midland. Further information is available by calling (704) 782-4221 or
