CHRIS DUNN GETS CAREER-FIRST BIG-10 WIN
Sharpe Continues Winning Ways in Late Model Stock

Concord, N.C. – Chris Dunn of Garner earned his first career Concord Motorsport Park victory Saturday night in a wild 125-lap Future Cellular Big-10 Series super late model feature. Point leader Travis Sharpe of Swansea, S.C. continued his winning ways in the 50-lap NASCAR Coca-Cola late model stock feature on Sun Trust Night at the races.

Other winners were: Brian Pedrick of Denver in the 35-lap Tommy Johnson’s Motorsports Warehouse limited late model feature; Alvin Thomas of Monroe in the 20-lap Speedway Plumbing pure stock feature; and Chad Miller of Concord in the 15-lap Speedway Plumbing fast and furious fours feature.

Three-time NASCAR late model stock champion Kevin Love of Midland started on the pole in the super late model feature and took the early lead. Point leader Freddie Query of Mooresville started fourth and started moving forward as the race started of un-fold. On lap 20, he suffered a rare engine failure sidelining him to a 15th-place finish. Love set a blistering pace and appeared to be headed to his first super late model victory when on lap 91 a lapped car forced him into the wall along the front straightaway and out of contention. This gave the top spot to Dennis Schoenfeld of Concord, who won twice earlier this season. Schoenfeld soon felt the challenge of Dunn and on lap 107 the cars touched entering turn three with Schoenfeld spinning. Dunn continued in the lead and raced to the controversial victory.

Ted Musgrave Jr. of Mooresville survived a mid-race spin to finish second. Clay Jones of Goldsboro had his best run of the season to finish third with Concord’s Jimmy Simpson fourth. Schoenfeld recovered to finish fifth. Query’s night wasn’t a total loss as he did claim the $1,500 bonus for leading the points following the “regular” season. The points will be reset now
with Query over Schoenfeld by two points. Each spot in the top 10 will be separated by two points for the three-race playoffs slated to begin on Sept. 24. For the second week in a row, point leader Sharpe was the dominant car in the late model stock feature leading every lap on the way to his seventh win of the year. POINTS>>

Chuck Crump of Star returned to the track for the second time this season and was rewarded with a second-place finish. Billy Lemmons of Salisbury, John Freeman of Huntersville and Roger Lee Newton of Concord completed the top five.

Pedrick raced from the back of the field twice to score the limited stock feature over hard-charging Bobby Measmer Jr., of Concord who also had a trip to the back of the field. Kenneth Cook of Concord finished third with point leader Jimmy Voyles of China Grove fourth. Randy McAnulty of Concord rounded out the top five.

Thomas, uncle of late model stock racer Bryan “Dude” Thomas, scored his first win in the pure stock feature. Chad Allmon of Mt. Pleasant was second with Steve Ackerly of Monroe third.

Miller won his third-straight fast and furious four feature over Wayne Harrington of China Grove and Eric Kimrey of Albemarle.
Friday night winners in the legends cars ranks on the quarter mile were: Josh Waring of Concord in the pro division; Travis Bare of Kannapolis in the semi-pro division; and Todd Johnson of Cornelius in the masters ranks. Bandolero winners Friday were: Benny Mingo of Kannapolis in the outlaws; Cole Miktuk of Fort Mill, S.C. in the young guns; and Concord’s Darrell
Wallace Jr. in the bandits division.

Racing resumes Saturday night when the drivers of the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series take center stage highlighted by a 100-lap feature for the late model stock division. The 600 Racing thunder roadsters will also be in competition.
