LINNY WHITE WINS ON LAST-LAP AT CONCORD
CONCORD, N.C. – Linny White of Colton, Calif. survived a wild night of
racing to win the 100-lap NASCAR Coca-Cola late model stock feature Saturday at
Concord Motorsport Park. It was his second win of the season.
Other winners were: Kyle Beattie of Concord in the 50-lap INEX thunder
roadster King of the Oval Tour feature; Terry Hoggard of Concord in the 35-lap
Tommy Johnson’s Motorsports Warehouse limited late models; Chad Allmon of Mt.
Pleasant in the 20-lap Speedway Plumbing pure stock feature; and Ben Smith of
Harrisburg in the Speedway Plumbing fast and furious fours feature.
Concord’s Roger Lee Newton led the first lap of the late model stock feature
before giving the top spot to Bo Foust of Charlotte. Foust, who is second
in points, and point leader Travis Sharpe of Swansea, S.C. had a fierce
battle for the lead with Sharpe getting the spot on lap 73.
On lap 94 the lead duo got together and Chuck Crump of Star raced between
them and into that lead. Crump lead until the final lap when White raced past
for the win. It was particularly spectacular as White was penalized to the
rear of the field late in the event for wrecking a lapped car and raced past
everyone else to the victory.
Foust recovered to finish second with Crump third. John Freeman of
Huntersville finished fourth. Defending track champion
Todd Bradburry of Concord
returned to action with a fifth place finish.
The race report will show that Beattie led all but one lap of the thunder
roadster feature, but it was a tough win for the point leader. He fended off a
constant assault from Drew Calhoun of Southern Pines to win the race.
Calhoun ended up in the runnerup position with Adam Welch of Concord third.
D.J. Krentz of Huntersville finished fourth and Jim Fluharty of Concord was
fifth.
Hoggard started on the pole position in the limited late mode feature and
quickly moved into the top spot. Kenneth Cook of Concord hustled from the sixth
starting spot to challenge the leader throughout the race.
Hoggard would not be denied and scored his third win of the season. Cook was
second with Brian Conforth, Randy McAnulty and Kenny Brooks, all of Concord,
making it a sweep for residents of the city.
While the late model stock feature was a thriller, the best finish of the
night was in the pure stock feature where Allmon scored the win by less than a
foot over Brian Love of Mt. Pleasant. Steve Irvin of Concord finished
third.
Ben Smith of Harrisburg won the fast and furious fours feature over Wayne
Harrington of China Grove and Brad Deal of Mt. Pleasant.
Friday night winners in legends cars at the quarter-mile oval were: Josh
Waring of Concord in the pro division; Glenn Jamieson of Charlotte in the
masters division; and James Boesher of Dallas, Texas in the semi-pro ranks.
Bandolero winners Friday were: Ryan Blaney of High Point in the bandits
(drivers eight to 11 years old); Matt Stover of Gastonia in the young guns
(drivers 12 to 15 years old); and Chris Morgan of Kannapolis in the outlaw
division for drivers older than 16.
Saturday is a huge night of racing for the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series
drivers with double points on the line for all divisions. It will be the final
double-point night of the year and a chance to make a big move in the yearly
standings.
The mini stock division will return for the final event for the class and
the Virginia mini cups will also be racing.
Legends and Bandolero racing continues on Friday nights at the quarter-mile
oval located behind the half-mile tri-oval.
Concord Motorsport Park is located on highway 601 south of Concord and
