SHANE BRAFFORD SCORES EIGHTH CONCORD WIN
CONCORD, N.C. – The “dream season” for Concord’s Shane Brafford continued
as he rolled to the victory in Saturday’s 100-lap NASCAR Coca Cola late
model stock feature at Concord Motorsport Park. It was the eighth win this season
for the driver who has already clinched the track championship.
Other winners on Independent Tribune Night were: Brian Conforth of Concord
in the 50-lap Tommy Johnson’s Motorsports Warehouse limited late model
feature; Brian Love of Mt. Pleasant in the 25-lap Golden Gait Trailers pure stock
feature; Adam Morgan of Mt. Pleasant in the 15-lap Speedway Plumbing fast and
furious fours feature; and Jim Cook of Concord in the 25-lap Redneck Racer
contest.
Brafford started on the pole position and spent the first 10 laps racing
side-by-side with Jeff Melton of Concord, who recently moved up to the late
model stock division after competing all season in the limited late model ranks.
By lap 11, Brafford was able to wrestle the advantage and set the pace.
The race was slowed multiple times allowing all challengers to stay close to
the track champion, but each time Brafford would maintain the lead. Chuck
Crump of Star raced from the sixth starting spot to finish second.
Billy Lemmons of Salisbury backed up his win from the last race with a
third-place finish. Andrew Thomas of Monroe finished fourth with Shaun Mangum, also
of Monroe, rallying back after an early spin to fifth.
Conforth scored the perfect night in the limited late model ranks. He was
fastest in qualifying, drew the pole position and led every lap on his way to
the win. It was his sixth victory of the season.
Defending champion Terry Hoggard of Concord kept his title hopes alive with a
second-place finish with Mike Terry of Charlotte third. Brian Pedrick of
Denver was fourth with Raymond Theiss of Farmingdale, N.Y. completing the top
five.
Love survived an early race melee to win the pure stock feature. The
defending champion led flag-to-flag enroute to the victory.
Chad Allmon of Mt. Pleasant finished second with Steve Irvin of Concord
third. Monroe’s Steve Ackerly finished fourth while David Miller of Stanfield
finished fifth.
Morgan started on the pole and led every lap of the pure stock feature. Jake
Simpson of Albemarle provided a constant challenge but came away second.
Tracy Mullis of Monroe finished third.
Jim Cook of Concord won the 25-lap redneck racers feature with Chris Player
of Monroe finished second. Former late model stock champion Shaun Mangum
drove to a third-place finish.
This Saturday night will be the final NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series race at the
speedway, headlined with a 150-lap feature for the late model stock racers.
Also racing will be the limited late models, pure stocks, fast and furious
fours and the redneck racers.
