CONCORD TO FOCUS ON FOUR KEY DIVISIONS IN 2006
CONCORD, N.C. – The 2006 racing season begins Saturday, April 1 at Concord Motorsport Park and the focus will be on four divisions that will compete weekly at the track.

“We want four strong divisions that fans can come to see race each week,” said David Laton, managing partner of the speedway. “I think the foundation is in place with the divisions we have and the goal is now to grow each into solid, exciting classes of cars.”

The weekly show will be headlined by the NASCAR late model stock division. Weekly 100-lap features will be presented as well as eight 150 lap races spread throughout the year. While the prize money for the winner has yet to be determined, the speedway has increased the starting money from $100 to $150.

Last season the late model stock division was extremely competitive with nine different drivers winning races. Amazingly, 25 of the 42 drivers who entered races at the track scored top-five finishes in 2005. That type excitement will be in the spotlight every Saturday night.

The limited late model division has had a short existence but has also grown into a very competitive popular class at the speedway. With a variety of engine combinations and an inexpensive tire-rental program the class allows racers to go fast and not spend a fortune.
Last year 39 racers competed in the limited late model class with nine winners also emerging. A total of 21 different drivers scored top-five finishes last year in the division.

A pair of entry level divisions will complete the weekly racing card each Saturday with the pure stocks and the fast and furious fours in competition.

The pure stock is a standard car, enhanced for safety purposes. These sedans feature V-8 engines and rear-wheel drive cars designed for the novice racer.

The fast and furious fours are standard four-cylinder cars, with the safety modifications. The cars will be “themed” cars next season and should provide a colorful exciting way for the greenhorn racer or veteran driver to compete.

Specific rules for each division will soon be available by contacting the speedway.
