CHUCK CRUMP CAPTURES FIRST 2008 WIN

CONCORD, N.C. – Defending Concord Motorsport Park defending Late Model Stock Car Champion Chuck Crump of Star, NC captured his first win of the 2008 Season Saturday night in the 75-lap Town and Country Ford LMSC feature.  Other winners included Jay Payne of Thomasville, NC in the Limited Late Models; Charles Hutto of Monroe, NC in the Pure Stocks and Tracy Mullis of Indian Trail in the Fast & Furious Fours.

The 2008 season has been one of frustration for Chuck Crump and his #8 R. L. Kellam Company 2008 Ford Fusion.  Two second place finishes and two races showing dnfs for mechanical problems had Chuck holding fifth position in the LMSC points table.  Saturday it all turned around for the 2007 Champ.  Not only did he qualify on the pole at 108.466 miles per hour, he then led flag to flag to pick up his first Town & Country Ford trophy of the season.  Kevin Love of Midland in the #88 A Plus Auto Salvage / Sogo Japanese Steakhouse 2006 Ford Fusion came in second; Concord’s Terry Brooks, Jr. in the #23 C W Channel 46 / Carpet Discount Warehouse / Frank Woods Gutters 2007 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS third; Andrew Thomas of Monroe fourth in the #69 Chevy and last week’s winner, Justin Hill of Concord in the #45 Hill's A/C Auto 2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS fifth.

The J R D Earthworks Limited Late Model feature found Jay Payne and his #08 Smiley's Barbecue / Cheerwine 2008 Ford Fusion back in The Independent Tribune Victory Lane for the third time this season.  Payne and Mike Terry have been battling for the wins this season.  Terry was fast qualifier with a lap of 103.722 miles per hour but started second after the draw.  Payne qualified just a tick behind Terry but drew sixth.  While it looked like Payne had his work cut out for him, he was on point at the end of the third lap while Terry had problems early.  With Payne taking the win, Steve Ackerly of Medford, New York placed second in the #66 Cochrane Steel 2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS; third went to Concord’s David Miller in the #74 Ronnie Knight Heating & Air / Coldwell Banker United Realtors / Texas Roadhouse of Concord 2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS; fourth and Sam McAuley of Huntersville fifth in the #92 Chevy.

The Coca-Cola Pure Stock feature had to be cut to half the usual number of laps as not one, but two of the competitors hand-grenaded their power plants during the course of the event.  Track Chaplain and leader of The Sons of Thunder track ministry had an engine expire as did impressive new-comer to the Pure Stock division Jesse Bunnell.  The accumulated clean-up bumped the race to the time limit and only fifteen laps completed the event.  Charles Hutto claimed his fourth win of the season.  Second went to Clinton Baker of Charleston, Illinois in the #2 Bench Built Transmissions Chevrolet Monte Carlo; third was Cooper Faassen of Monroe in the #11 Wilburn Auto Body - Akzo Nobel Chevrolet; fourth Mike Southwell of       Stanfield, NC in the #6 Buick Regal and fifth was David Good of Gastonia, NC in the #77 Franklin Signs & Graphics Chevrolet.

Tracy Mullis of Indian Trail can always be counted on to run up-front in the Tim Marburger Honda Fast & Furious Fours division and Saturday was no exception.  Mullis started fifth in the #55 Miracle Dental Center / Spencer Morgan (Autism Foundation) "THE ENFORCER" Honda Prelude and claimed his third win of the season.  Second was claimed by Jake Simpson of Albemarle in the #74 Northside Motors / Tim Marburger Honda "ALBEMARLE BULLDOG" Honda; third finisher was Bradley Kimrey of Norwood, NC in the #99 Tim Marburger Honda / Northside Auto Sales /- H & K Auto /- Doug's Garage "WILD THANG" Honda; fourth went to Wayne Harrington of Salisbury in the #3 C & D Salvage "SUPERMAN" Honda and fifth was Chad Miller in the #88 Auto Tech "DIRTY MO POSSE" Honda

This Saturday Miracle Dental Center presents The Robbie Wells Memorial.  The evening of NASCAR Whelen All-American Series racing will climax with a special 100-lap Limited Late Model feature posting a purse of $4,675.00 for a starting field of 24.  There is no pre-registration required, so we don’t know at this time exactly how many Limited Late Models are expected.  The winner will receive a $1,200.00 payday.  Also, the leader of lap 74 (Robbie’s old car number) will receive a bonus of $300.00.  Along with the 100-lap JRD Earthworks Limited Late Model event, the traditional races for the Town & Country Ford Late Model Stock Cars, Coca-Cola Pure Stocks and Tim Marburger Honda Fast & Furious Fours will be held.  Pit gates open at 2:30 PM, practice is at 3:30, grandstand gates open (officially… you can watch practice without a ticket) at 5:30, qualifying is at 5:45 and racing starts at 7:30.  Grandstand admission is $12.00 for adults with children age 11 and under admitted free with a ticketed adult.

Friday was the final race of the spring series for Legends and Bandoleros racers that play on the quarter-mile track at Concord Motorsport Park.  The winners were: Beginner Bandits: Ben Klatt Ravensdale, WA #23 Bandolero.  Bandits: Dillon Bassett Winston Salem, NC #44 Bassett Seamless Gutters Bandolero.  Young Guns: Matt Linker Mt. Pleasant, NC #06 J D L Homes Bandolero.  Outlaws: Brett Peppicelli York, SC # 11Bandolero.  Semi Pro Chargers: Andrew Belmont Mooresville, NC #11 '37 Chevy Sedan.  Semi Pros: Justin Lloyd Mooresville, NC #43 A&J Motorsports - Lake Norman Counseling Service '34 Ford Coupe.  Pros: Jordan Anderson Forest Acres, SC #19 City of Forest Acres - Dick Dyer Toyota - Leon Jones Insurance '37 Chevy Sedan.  Masters: Charles Kiser Walnut Cove, NC #28 Clay Hair Motorsports / DSR '34 Ford Coupe.  The Legends and Bandoleros resume competition at Concord Motorsport Park on August 15th following the “Summer Shootout” at Lowe’s Motor Speedway.

Racing action on the quarter-mile will continue Wednesday nights this summer with the United States Auto Club (USAC) Ford Focus Midgets Summer Series.

Concord Motorsport Park is located on Highway 601 South of Concord.  For information call 704-782-4221 or visit the website at www.concordmotorsportpark.com
