INDEPENDENT TRIBUNE LADIES NIGHT RAINED OUT

CONCORD, N.C. – In the immortal words of Yogi Berra, it was “Déjà vu all over again”.  All through the afternoon, track officials nervously watched all available weather radar sights and for a long time, thought all the forecasters had missed the broad side of the barn.  All through practice, time trials and the start of the first event, every thing went according to schedule, then the dark clouds began building in the South and West.  A few minutes after the start of the Tim Marburger Honda Fast & Furious Fours event, the rain started.  After many claps under the caution flag, the red flag was thrown at 7:40 PM and the wait began.  Finally, and hour and twenty minutes later, with a still-wet track and more rain on the way, it was decided that there was not enough time to dry the track and complete the event in the amount of time remaining before the midnight curfew.  The announcement was made for the second Saturday Night in a row: “Ladies and Gentlemen, please hold onto your ticket stubs and pit passes and we will honor those for admission next Saturday…”

Two rain-outs in a row, a total of four NWAAS events rained-out on the season and we’re still in a deep drought!

Pit passes and grandstand tickets that were purchased June 21st will be honored Saturday June 28th during USG Sheetrock Night at the Races for The NASCAR Whelen All-American Series.  June 28st’s racing schedule includes a special 50-laps feature for the Tim Marburger Honda fast & Furious Fours, 30-laps for Coca-Cola Pure Stocks, 40-laps for The J R D Earthworks Limited Late Models, 75-laps for the Town & Country Ford Late Model Stock Cars and 25-laps for the Insurance Auto Auction Bootlegger Brigade.  Registration open at 2:00 PM, pit gates at 2:30, practice at 3:30, driver’s meeting at 5:15, grandstand box office open at 5:30.  The pre-race activities start at 7:10 PM and racing is scheduled for 7:30. 

Wednesday evening, June 25th the USAC Ford Focus Midgets hold their first racing event on the quarter-mile oval.

For the weekend of Saturday July 5th the half-mile TriOval will be idle.  May the Fourth be with you!

Saturday July 12th The Super Sonic 100 for the ASA Late Model Series South is on the schedule.  The race will be supported by en event for the Miniature Motorsports Racing Association (MMRA). Advance tickets and $2.00 discount coupons are available at the track office.
