Bobby Measmer, Jr. and Jay Payne split wins at Concord



CONCORD, N.C. – Two for One Night for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series at Concord Speedway meant, among other things, two features for all divisions Saturday Night.  Bobby Measmer, Jr. and Jay Payne shared victories in the Wilburn Auto Body Late Model Stock Cars.  Other winners included Jeff Melton and Barry Reed in the Coca-Cola Pure Stocks; Barry Canter and Wayne Harrington in the Tim Marburger Honda Fast & Furious Fours and Rusty Drye and sixty eight year old Allen Kirby in the Thunderstox.

Bobby Measmer, Jr started the afternoon in the #14 Denny's Restaurants / Racing Electronics / ReMax at the Lake 2010 Chevrolet Impala SS with a 17.001 seconds, 105.876 Miles Per Hour qualifying run but drew a next-to-worst #7 pill, inverting the top seven qualifiers for the first feature.  Measmer, of Concord, was able to pull out front by the end of the twenty-five-lapper with Dr. Jerry Miracle of Monroe claiming second, Jay Payne of Thomasville third, David Miller of Concord fourth and Clinton Baker of Charleston, Illinois fifth.

The drivers re-racked for the second feature and at the end of that twenty-five laps Jay Payne had steered his #08 A-Plus Auto Salvage /- Smiley's Bar-B-Cue / Cheerwine / Walt's Custom Exhaust & AC 2006 Ford Fusion to the Country Inn and Suites Victory Lane for the second time in the young season.  Measmer claimed a close second, Miracle third, Miller fourth and Baker fifth in the second run.  Measmer claimed the Carolina Fast Marts Hard Charger Award over the two events.

Jeff Melton, from Monroe, in the #6 NASCAL / A-1 Automotive Ford Thunderbird resumed his fastest qualifier position, posting a 19.632 seconds, 96.966 MPH lap in time trials for the Coca-Cola Pure Stocks, going on to win the first feature.  Second across the line was Jamille Flaquer of Miami, Florida.  Third went to Monroe’s Charles Faassen, fourth to Buddy Compton of Mooresville and fifth to Toledo, Ohio’s Patty Markin.

Barry Reed of Flat Creek, SC in the #98 Whitetail Fall Farms /- Brothers Towing Chevrolet put on a tremendous drive in the second Pure Stock match-up to claim his first Concord victory.  Faassen finished second, Markin third, Tony Pasquerillo, Jr of Charlotte fourth and Flaquer ion fifth.

Newcomer Justin Potter of Huntersville, a member of the Stewart-Haas racing organization posted a quickest timed lap of 19.970 seconds, 90.135 MPH lap in the Chico’s Bail Bonds Honda owned by Bobby Measmer, Jr. to pace the Tim Marburger Honda Fast & Furious Fours division, then inverted five drivers in the pill-pull for the first event.  Barry Canter in the #00 B & B Metal Worx - Hollywood Limousines Honda Prelude backed up last week’s track-record qualifying effort with a win in the first feature.  Eric Harrington of Kannapolis crossed second, Tracy Mullis of Marshville third, Potter fourth and Concord’s Chad Miller fifth.

The second Fast & Furious Fours feature was claimed by Wayne Harrington with Potter second, Miller third, Mullis fourth and Canter fifth.

The Thunderstox opened and closed the evening Saturday.  Rusty Drye of Rimerton in the #84 Rimer Motors / Broom Sign Company Dodge Diplomat took the first win.  Second went to Bob Wallace of Concord, third to Rusty’s Son Matt, fourth to Randy McAnulty of Concord and fifth to Concord’s John Rary.

The nightcap event was claimed by 69-year old Kirby Allen of Rockwell proving there is hope for all us seasoned citizens.  Second was Wallace, Matt Drye third, McAnulty fourth and Rary fifth.

Legends, Bandoleros and Arena Cars clash again this Friday night on the quarter-mile track out-back.  Pit gates open at 5:30 PM, grandstands at 7:00.  Adult grandstand admission is just $7 with Children age 11 and under admitted free with a ticketed adult.  Pit passes are $20 adult and $10 for youth ages 15 and under.

Saturday April 17th is Wilburn Auto Body Night at the Races and will include the first of the PRO FIVE Pro Late Model events of the year.  In addition to the five regular NASCAR Whelen All-American Series, the Pro Late Model straight rail cars will contest a 100-laps feature.  Other attractions include $1 beer and soda, Pizza Hut Pizza; buy one slice of a whole pizza and get one free and a pre-race Kid’s Coin Scramble.  Adult general admission is $12 for the additional racing while children age 11 and under are still admitted free with an adult.
