Colt James crowned HUTCHBSR Pro Late Model Champion
Measmer claims fourth season Late Model Stock Car victory

CONCORD, N.C. – Colt James garnered the 2010 HUTCHBSR Pro 5 Pro Late Model Championship after crossing the finish line first in Saturday night’s rain and curfew shortened contest.  Bobby Measmer, Jr. scored his fourth Wilburn Auto Body Late Model Stock Car victory of 2010 while Brian Love went seven for seven in the Coca-Cola Pure Stocks.  “Superman” Wayne Harrington collected another Tim Marburger Honda Fast & Furious Fours trophy while Rusty Drye picked up both Town & Country Ford Thunderstox wins Saturday Night at Concord Speedway.  James’ Championship was a fitting cap to the HUTCHBSR Night at the Races on the famed half-mile TriOval.

The HUTCHBSR Pro5 Pro Late Model Series Season Finale’ was shortened due to a one hour and forty-five rain delay that pushed the event against the midnight curfew.  The race, a double-points event to complete the Pro Late Model season, ended with a one attempt green-white-checkered finish at the stroke midnight with 88 laps complete.  The original event was scheduled for 100 green flag laps

Roger Lee Newton jumped out to an early lead, but Kevin Love wasn’t far behind.  The event was red flagged for rain on lap 27 as a rain shower moved through the area.  Following the rain delay, Newton maintained the lead after the next two restarts, one for a single car incident involving Matt Brooks, and the other when new-comer Michael Pilla spun and collected Bobby Measmer, Jr.  Colt James took the lead from Newton on lap 35.  On lap 38, Newton and Love made contact in Turn Two resulting in Newton spinning and falling to the rear of the field to bring out the caution.  James and Love raced hard for the lead, but James held the position.  The red flag waived again around lap 86 after another new-comer, Gus Dean, lost an engine and backed hard into the Turn Three wall.  When the race resumed, officials announced the field would make one attempt at a green-white-checkered finish as midnight approached. James took the white flag as Newton fell back through the field, followed by the checkered to secure the race win and the championship.  Kevin Love finished second, followed by Mark Reedy in third.

B obby Measmer, Jr. claimed his fourth win of 2010 in the Wilburn Auto Body Late Model Stock Division race, also a double points event.  Ryan Salomon was scheduled to start on the point, but fell to the rear of the field after pitting during pace laps.  Larry Benz took the lead early, holding the position until Jerry Miracle moved into the first spot around lap 12, and Measmer took the spot around lap 18.  Miracle and Jay Payne battled for second as the 40 lap race drew to a close.  The two made contact, sending Miracle into the wall and back to third.  Measmer won, followed by Payne in second and Miracle in third.

Brian Love won the 30 lap double points Coca-Cola Pure Stocks event after battling with Jeff Melton in a race fans and officials won’t soon forget.  It was the Love/Melton show as the two battled side-by-side for a total of 12 laps.  The only caution of the race waived around lap 27 when Buddy Compton tapped the wall coming off of Turn Three, resulting in a flat tire.  Love, who was six for six events going into Saturday night’s events, celebrated his seven for seven record with a burnout.  Melton finished second, followed by Charles Faassen in third.

Wayne Harrington won his third race of the season in the Tim Marburger Honda Fast & Furious Fours after dominating the event.  Harrington rocketed to an early lead and had earned an eleven car-length lead by lap 12.  Chad Miller and Dean Lancaster put on quite a show as the two jostled for the second position with two laps to go.  Eric Harrington lost a wheel and went into a spin on the last lap.  Chad Miller finished second behind Wayne Harrington, and Dean Lancaster finished third.

Rusty Drye won both Town & Country Ford Thunderstox events.  In both, Matt Drye finished second and Kirby Allen finished third in each of the 15 lap sprint races.

“The World’s Fastest Half-Mile TriOval” is on hiatus next Saturday as the eyes of NASCAR fans everywhere will focus on the Sprint Cup proceedings at Bristol but, racing continues on the quarter-mile!  Wednesday, the USAC Ford Focus Midgets resume their “Midweek Mayhem” races at 7:30 PM.  Grandstand admission is FREE.

Friday and Saturday August 21st and 22nd and Friday August 27th INEX RPM ProFormance Legends, Bandoleros and Arena Racing Outdoors competitors do battle on the quarter-mile.  Heat races get underway at 7:45 PM. Grandstand general admission is just $7 for adults with children age 11 and under admitted free with an attending adult.
