Greg Peterson wins the Miracle Dental Center 2nd Annual Robbie Wells Memorial for the Town & Country Ford Late Models at Concord Speedway

CONCORD, N.C. – Greg Peterson won the second annual Miracle Dental Center Robbie Wells Memorial Late Model event for the Town & Country Ford division.  Steve Ackerly, who was also the pole winner with a speed of more than 106 mph, clinched the 2009 division track championship Saturday night when he took the green flag at the start of the race.  Ackerly lead until lap fifteen when he was passed by Jay Payne as the field restarted after Matt Harper spun and hit the wall in Turn One.  The second caution of the night waved on lap twenty-five for debris, during which a one car incident involving Corey Ann Rossi in Turn Three brought out the red flag for 14 minutes.  The race restarted on lap thirty-three.  Tony Pasquarello tagged the wall on lap thirty-six, but the race was able to continue without a caution.  Greg Peterson took the lead from Jay Payne after a side-by-side battle for the lead on lap fifty-nine.  The caution flag waived one last time on lap eighty-three for fluid on the track from the #74 machine of David Miller.  Peterson maintained the position as a four way battle for second and third unfolded behind him.  Peterson, in RFR Motorsports entry, took home the first place trophy, Jay Payne finished second and Brian Conforth crossed the line in third.

Bobby Measmer, Jr. won his sixth race of the season in Hutch BSR Pro Late Model race, and Cooper Faassen won the 2009 division track championship Saturday night.  Measmer and Mark Reedy swapped the lead four times as they battled for the top position throughout the 100 lap race.  Faassen battled back to the fourth position to secure the championship after tangling with Jerick Johnson in Turn Three on lap thirty-two. It was a bittersweet win for Measmer, who pledged to return to the track next season to battle for the championship.   Fourth-finishing Faassen claimed the crown by just four points over fifth finisher Daniel Johnson.  Measmer wound up the season in third just twelve points in back of Faassen.  Faassen, who also won Rookie of the Year honors for 2009, celebrated his championship in victory lane by thanking his family, friends and fans.  Mark Reedy finished the race in second followed by Jerick Johnson in third.

Jeff Melton won the Coca-Cola Pure Stock race, and secured the division track championship, after battling door-to-door with Randy McAnulty and Bryan Thomas lap after lap.  The three stole the show as they fought for position three-wide, swapping the lead multiple times. Thomas saved his Chevrolet after sliding out of the groove and almost hitting the wall twice in the heat of battle.  It was Melton who claimed the win after thirty laps, followed by McAnulty in second and Thomas in third. This was Melton’s tenth win at the historic track this season.

Wayne Harrington won the Tim Marburger Honda Fast & Furious Fours season finale race and 2009 division track championship.  It was quite a show as the drivers went three-wide on the first lap of the race in Turn Three, bringing the fans in the stands on their feet.  Barry Canter, who led the first six laps, lost the top spot to Harrington as they battled with Eric Harrington three-wide on lap two.  The only caution of the race waived on lap twelve when Dale Stewart spun in Turn Three.  This was the seventh win of the season for Wayne Harrington.  Eric Harrington finished second in the night’s events and Brian Irby finished third.

While the 2009 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series is now complete, there is still more to come! Saturday night October 31st the UARA Stars return to Concord Speedway for their second appearance of the season with a 150-lap feature.  Also on the schedule for Halloween night is a feature for the Pro Challenge Cars.

Friday and Saturday November 5th, 6th and 7th the Seventh Annual North-South Shootout invades the half-mile TriOval.  Capital Bank, Town & Country Ford and the Cabarrus Convention and Visitors Bureau are all lending a hand in the presentation.  Thursday will be a practice session, Friday November 6th starts out with alternating practice sessions with qualifying at 5:00 PM and heat races immediately following.  Saturday, the grandstands open at 10:00 AM and the fan-favorite Pit Party is scheduled from 11:30 AM until 1:00 PM.  Race fans have the opportunity to visit with the drivers and cars on the front straight.  The Modified consolation rolls off at 1:15 followed by feature events for the Vintage Divisions, SK Modifieds, TBARA (Tampa Bay Area Racing Association) winged sprint cars, the Tour Modifieds and finally the CRA Super Late Models!  Tickets are available at the speedway office.  General admission two-day tickets are $35.00.  Tickets are also available by calling 336-422-4317 or online at www.northsouthshootout.com.

Concord Speedway is located on Highway 601 South of Concord.  For information call 704-782-4221 or visit the website at www.concordspeedway.net
