Kenny Brooks in Concord Speedway Victory Lane

CONCORD, N.C. – Kenny Brooks won the Wilburn Auto Body Late Model division race; Brian Love won the Coca-Cola Pure Stocks ; Wayne Harrington the Tim Marburger Honda Fast & Furious Fours and Bob Wallace and Kirby Allen each won a Town & Country Ford Thunderstox competition.

The name of Brooks, synonymous with Concord Victory Lane returned to the scoreboard Saturday night as Kenny Brooks, son of the great Terry Brooks and brother to Terry, Jr. claimed victory in the Wilburn Auto Body Late Mode Stock Cars feature in one of the most exciting feature races of the season. It took three attempted starts before field was able to complete the first lap.   The first attempt was thwarted when Evan Cupples spun in Turn One.  The second attempt was unsuccessful because Brian Conforth jumped the start.  The third attempt worked and Conforth secured the point position as Bobby Measmer, Jr.  and Kenny Brooks battled for position behind Conforth.  David Miller spun just past the start/finish line to bring out the first caution on lap two.  Brooks slid past Conforth just after the restart to take the top spot on lap two while Jay Payne and Jeff Melton ran side-by-side while racing for the fifth spot.  The third caution waived when Clinton Baker spun in Turn Three; and the fourth yellow waived when Cupples and Miller tangled just past Turn Three, sending both cars into the inside retaining wall.  When the race restarted, Brooks defended the lead as the cars behind him battled two and three wide for the top five positions.  Jerry Miracle and Brad Kurth made contact that sent Kurth hard into the Turn Three wall to bring out the fourth caution. Jeff Graves spun in Turn Two to bring out another caution.  When the race resumed, Payne challenged Brooks for the lead, but Brooks maintained the spot leaving Payne, Melton, and Measmer to battle for second.   Melton and Measmer made contact that sent Payne into the wall in Turn Two bringing out the last caution of the night.  When the checkered flag waived, only seven of the thirteen cars that started the race crossed the finish line.  Melton finished second followed by Measmer in third.  This was Brooks’ first win of the season.

Brian Love won his third race of the season in the Coca-Cola Pure Stock division feature.  Austin McKee led the field to the green, but the action was back in the pack as Charles Faassen, Jeff Melton, and Brandon Cooper battled for the second position and Barry Reed and Brandon Cooper raced for fifth. The red flag waived after Cooper fell off the pace and put down oil on lap six.  The race restarted with McKee and Melton side-by-side for the lead, Melton claimed the position with Brian Love second.  Love put the pressure on Melton, racing him door-to-door from Turn One and taking first by a nose at the line on lap twelve.  McKee and Flaquer battled so hard that McKee almost lost control of his car in Turn Three.  He was able to save the car, but fell back several spots.  As the pack battled behind them, Love and Melton pulled away.  Melton picked up momentum coming out of Turn Three on the last lap, but it wasn’t enough to stop Love from taking the checkered flag.  Melton settled for second and Flaquer finished third.

Wayne “Superman” Harrington lived up to the nickname in the Tim Marburger Honda Fast & Furious Fours race by claiming his second win of the season after dominating the 25 lap race. Fans watching this roller derby of a race saw Mike Loomis get completely sideways but save it on the first lap.  While Harrington pulled away from the pack, Chad Miller and Barry Canter raced side-by- side for position followed by another door-to-door battle between Miller and Brian Irby.  Canter got a bump from behind coming to the line on lap seven, but saved it.  On lap eight, Terry Parham and David Layton made contact in Turn Three causing Parham to spin and bring out the caution.  Harrington never relinquished the lead, but his car started smoking heavily coming out of Turn Three on his way to take the checkered flag.  Dean Lancaster finished second followed by Miller in third.

Bob Wallace won the first of two Town & Country Ford Thunderstox races of the night to claim his first win of the 2010 season.  Matt Drye started the race with an early lead, but John Rary wouldn’t let him get too far ahead without pulling beside him to challenge for the position.  Rary wasn’t able to complete the pass on lap four, but tried again on lap seven, but each time Drye defended the spot. Rusty Drye and Bob Wallace caught the two front runners, setting Rusty Drye up to challenge John Rary for second.  The two made contact on lap 14 to bring out the caution.  Shortly after Rusty Drye and John Rary crashed in Turn Two to bring out the red flag.  Bob Wallace jumped to the lead when the race restarted on lap 11 while Matt Drye made a miraculous save in Turn Two when he car got lose and barely missed the wall on lap 13.  Wallace crossed the line first followed by Matt Drye in second and Rusty Drye in third.

Kirby Allen won the second Town & Country Ford Thunderstox race of the night, claiming his third win of the 2010 race season. Allen led every lap of the race as the cars battled for position behind him.  Bob Wallace and Dalton Tompkins ran door-to-door for fourth on lap two and then Rusty Drye raced fender-to-fender with Bob Wallace for the second spot on lap three.  As Allen put distance between his car the rest of the pack, Rusty Drye, Wallace and Matt Drye had fans on the edge of their seats as they battled for the same track position.  Allen took home the trophy while Rusty Drye finished second followed by Bob Wallace in third.
